2025 MINI Countryman SE
2024 Porsche Macan Electric

Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Countryman SE are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Countryman SE has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Countryman SE has standard Rear Collision Prevention that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The Countryman SE’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Countryman SE and the Macan Electric have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

MINI pays for scheduled maintenance on the Countryman SE for 2 years and 26000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Macan Electric (3/36,000 vs. 1/10,000).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that MINI vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 6th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that MINI vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks MINI third in overall reliability. Porsche is ranked 8th.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Countryman SE can travel with zero emissions for 204 to 212 miles (dependent on model). The Macan Electric can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Countryman SE’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Macan Electric’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Countryman SE has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Macan Electric (7.4 vs. 7.2 inches), allowing the Countryman SE to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The MINI Countryman SE may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 650 to 800 pounds less than the Porsche Macan Electric.

The Countryman SE is 1 foot, 1.4 inches shorter than the Macan Electric, making the Countryman SE easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Countryman SE’s rear seats recline. The Macan Electric’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Countryman SE has a much larger cargo volume than the Macan Electric with its rear seat up (24.8 vs. 22.9 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Countryman SE’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by waving your foot, leaving your hands completely free. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The Countryman SE has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Countryman SE’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Macan Electric’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Countryman SE has a standard rear wiper. A rear wiper costs extra on the Macan Electric.

The Countryman SE’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Control Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Macan Electric’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
