The Countryman has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The ADX doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Countryman. But it costs extra on the ADX.

Both the Countryman and ADX have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Countryman has Brake Intervention (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The ADX’s Rear Cross Traffic Monitor doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Countryman and the ADX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Countryman’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the ADX’s (12 vs. 5 years).

MINI pays for scheduled maintenance on the Countryman for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Acura pays for maintenance for the ADX (3/36,000 vs. 1/12000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that MINI vehicles are better in initial quality than Acura vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI above average in initial quality. With 11 more problems per 100 vehicles, Acura is rated lower.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that MINI vehicles are more reliable than Acura vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 42 more problems per 100 vehicles, Acura is ranked 20th.

The Countryman S’ standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 51 more horsepower (241 vs. 190) and 116 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 179) than the ADX’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The JCW Countryman’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 122 more horsepower (312 vs. 190) and 116 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 179) than the ADX’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the MINI Countryman is faster than the Acura ADX:

On the EPA test cycle the Countryman S gets better fuel mileage than the ADX AWD (24 city/32 hwy vs. 25 city/30 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the Countryman’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The ADX doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Countryman’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The ADX doesn’t offer launch control.

The Countryman stops much shorter than the ADX:

For better traction, the Countryman’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the ADX (245/45R19 vs. 235/45R19).

The Countryman’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the ADX A-Spec’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Countryman offers optional 20-inch wheels. The ADX’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Countryman offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The ADX’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Countryman’s wheelbase is 1.5 inches longer than on the ADX (106 inches vs. 104.5 inches).

The JCW Countryman handles at .99 G’s, while the ADX A-Spec AWD pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The JCW Countryman executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.2 seconds quicker than the ADX A-Spec AWD (25.1 seconds @ .79 average G’s vs. 27.3 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Countryman has a greater minimum ground clearance than the ADX (8 vs. 7.3 inches), allowing the Countryman to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Countryman is 10.8 inches shorter than the ADX, making the Countryman easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Countryman has 2.3 inches more front headroom, 3.4 inches more front hip room, 1.1 inches more rear headroom and 8.9 inches more rear hip room than the ADX.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Countryman’s rear seats recline. The ADX’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Countryman has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the ADX with its rear seat up (25 vs. 24.4 cubic feet). The Countryman has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the ADX with its rear seat folded (56.2 vs. 55.1 cubic feet).

The Countryman has a 3499 lbs. towing capacity. The ADX has no towing capacity.

Optional Trailer Stabilization Control on the Countryman uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The ADX doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Countryman uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The ADX uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that MINI service is better than Acura. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in service department satisfaction. With a 3% lower rating, Acura is ranked 6th.

The Countryman has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The ADX doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The power windows standard on both the Countryman and the ADX have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Countryman is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The ADX prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Countryman’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The ADX’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. With the ADX A-Spec’s power windows, only the front windows open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the Countryman the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the ADX can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Countryman’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The ADX’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Countryman to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The ADX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Countryman has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The ADX doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Countryman’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The ADX has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The MINI Countryman has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the ADX and are only available on ADX A-Spec.

The Countryman has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the ADX.

The Countryman offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the ADX.

The Countryman’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Control Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The ADX doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
